STUDENT'S BLOG

I've asked my students to blog about other blogs I put on blackboard and one them chose to blog about mine.  The funny thing is that this student did not look very carefully at my blog because his post doesn't seem to even acknowledge that it's his teacher's blog he's blogging on.  Check out the post

DIGITAL FILM-MAKING

Found this site for digital film-making.  Allows people to make a flash movie without knowing flash, including adding a soundtrack.

IVAN

Ivan looks like it'll probably miss Tampa.  Yeah!  But I feel guilty for wishing it'd somebody else.  Anyways, a friend sent me this cool link that animates the tracks for the hurricanes, check it out-  Ivan Graphic

FRANCES AND NOW IVAN THE TERRIBLE

I am so sick of hurricanes. Frances kept us in the dark for 38 hours, which is a very long time to be without electricity in Florida, and our phone was out for about half of that time as well. Of course some people are still without electricity in the area. I hope they have someone they can stay with. Now it looks like Ivan might hit us too. I feel like every weekend is another hurricane and we're moths away from the end of hurricane season. I feel guilty for wishing Ivan on someone else, but I'm not sure what people in Florida will do if we get hit with another one. I'd love to get out of the state for awhile and just not deal with these storms.

FICTION / BLOGGING

Jill has an interesting post about the difference between an individual's reality and the reality the individual presents on his/her blog. It's definitely important to remember that knowing a person from his/her blog and knowing a person are too separate things. But it's weird how I feel like I've know some of these bloggers so well, but in reality I've never met them. Blogging both connects people and at the same time maintains a distance.

ASTROTURF AND PLAGIARISM

Patty and I have been talking about this for a little while and I'm definitely working on it. We want to create an online quiz/learning place on plagiarism for students to fill out and then sign that they understood plagiarism. Turns out for the class I'm taking in Instructional technology we have to create some sort of learning project and this will most likely be mine, but after reading this article on astroturf, I wonder if I should include this as a plagiarism situation. The basic idea of the quiz is to create situations where plagiarism might come up and then have student decide what they would do in that situation. Depending on what they do they will either progress to the next question or be told why what they have chosen is plagiarism. Astroturf puts plagiarism in a real world context where most people probably never even consider the ethics of what they are choosing to do.
